How to Make Fluffy Slime without Contact Solution
Contact solution wasn't actually used to make slime much in previous years. It only became trendy when there was a scandal in the slime world!

Why Did People Start Using Contact Solution to Make Slime?
Contact solution started to be used by many people after several news articles circulated in 2015 and 2016 or thereabouts about how borax was causing rashes on kids' skin.
This caused many parents to look for borax-free slime (our recipe is how to make slime with baking soda), and contact solution became a common ingredient to use.
But!
Contact solution actually does contain borax. It's just already mixed in with liquid. So that sort of defeated that purpose.
Some people also used contact solution because some countries cannot get laundry starch.
Contact solution is also a lot more expensive than borax powder (or our favorite, Sta-flo laundry starch).
So, we like to make fluffy slime without contact solution instead.
What Can You Use Instead of Contact Solution in Slime?
If you want your slime to work like traditional slime, there are typically four options.
- Borax powder
- Laundry starch
- Slime activator
- Contact solution
We also found that you can make a magnesium flake slime, which works pretty well, but it does produce a slightly stickier slime.
If you don't want to use contact lens solution for slime, then you'll need to use one of the other slime activators.

How to Fix Ruined Slime
If your slime is messed up, it's probably either too sticky or too watery. Here's how to fix those issues.
Why is My Slime Watery?
Watery slime usually means you messed up the ratio, but it's usually completely fixable. If your slime is too watery, try this:
- Add more activator. It could be you just didn't add enough activator!
- Pour off excess liquid. It could be that you added too much water or activator and need to pour off some access.
If that doesn't work, try adding a bit more glue.
Why is My Slime Sticky?
Sticky slime usually means you don't have enough activator. Try adding a bit more.
If that doens't work, you may need to add something dry, like cornstarch, to help reduce how sticky your slime is. I like to add either cornstarch or shaving cream to eliminate stickiness.
Why is My Slime Stringy?
Fluffy slime has a tendency to get stringy. If this happens, you may need to rinse it with water for about 30 seconds and then let it rest for about 2 minutes.
After that, knead the slime together and it should come together as one again and turn back into stretchy, fluffy slime.
Fluffy Slime without Contact Solution Recipe
The recipe for this fluffy slime is so easy!
First, mix 1 part glue and 1 part shaving cream.
This is where you would also add your colors and textures.
Don't overmix or you will eliminate some of the "fluffy" part of the slime.
Next, add half a part of laundry starch to the slime. If you used 1 cup of glue, start with 1/2 a cup of starch.
Keep mixing and adding starch until the slime forms a dough-like ball.
You should be able to press and squeeze the slime without it sticking to your hand. If you can't. add a bit more activator.
Here are some variations we've made with this fluffy slime recipe.
